It’s been another busy week here in wellies (is there any other kind?) and I’m pulling this Little Loves round up together between walking the dog, helping out at a school trip, doing end-of-month admin, and making a flying visit to the supermarket for pumpkins. We’re expecting a few guisers (what we call Halloween visitors here in Scotland), and like to be prepared with plenty of sweets and goodies. This year we’re all dressing up again and our outfits include a dastardly doctor, a couple of grim reaper types and Harriet Potter (that’s me if you hadn’t realised). Oh, and here’s a picture of our dog wandering about on the beach, as you do, in his Halloween costume. He’s a lion every year, although I don’t think he likes being a big cat very much to be honest. He spends most of the evening with his ears around his ankles, but for a little while at least, he looks so adorable and cute!
Before I go full swing into Halloween mode, here’s a round up of what I’ve been loving lately. I promise there isn’t an overgrown pumpkin or a scary ghoul in sight!
READ
This week I’ve been finishing off The Keeper of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan. More on that in my Reading Lately post shortly, but for now, if you’re looking for a sweet treat to delve into, this lovely tale of friendship, loss, and happy endings is sure to make you smile.
WATCHED
My husband was away with work for several days last week and naturally, one of my first thoughts was what I could watch on Netflix while I was in sole charge of the remote 😉 I settled on catching up on a bit of Outlander and watching the new Lady Gaga documentary – an interesting film about the run up to her Super Bowl performance earlier in the year.
WORE
It was my birthday last week and my sister gave me this lovely hat she’d knitted. The older I get the more I appreciate this kind of thoughtful, personal gift. The timing was also perfect as the weather here is suddenly turning colder! The clocks going back always seems to herald a swift move towards winter in the north.
I received lots of lovely gifts (and more importantly, visits) from friends and family on my birthday – I don’t need much in life to keep me happy but just knowing that I’ve been thought about always makes me smile. I’ve even had my first foray into Jo Malone fragrance thanks to a couple of hints (and maybe a follow up email) to my husband. Yep, I don’t need much to keep me happy…but let’s face it readers, a wee parcel from the airport never fails to go down well 😉
MADE
This weekend I attempted making my own massage oil with some essential oils I also got for my birthday. At the moment I’m trying all sorts of things to try to alleviate a myriad of chronic fatigue and pain issues I’ve had since a bout of bacterial pneumonia last year. The bad news is I haven’t had the chance yet to actually test my little creation! I’m sure I’ll be reporting back in a Little Loves update sometime soon 🙂
AND LASTLY
This morning I dug out an old photo of my brother, myself (and an unidentified other) on one of our Halloween outings back our heyday. Oh for the 1980’s, when all you needed to be Halloween-ready was an old sheet, some of your Dad’s oversized jumpers and a net curtain (our neep* lantern was slightly out of shot). Meanwhile back in the present my house is looking decidedly orange. Until next week, little lovers – have a very Happy Halloween 🙂

What an adorable costume and love the sound of that book. Added it to my wish list. I do love essential oils and what a great sounding show. Have a good month xx
Thanks Susan, yes the book is lovely – a really nice heartwarming read 🙂 Can’t believe we’re already into November! Hope you have a lovely month too xx
I have heard such good things about The Keeper of Lost Things, so I am definitely going to read it. The hat your sister made you for your birthday looks super cosy! #LittleLoves
It’s such a sweet read Catherine, hope you enjoy it 🙂 Yes, the hat is very cosy, just right for the weather turning cold! x
The Keeper Of Lost Things seems to cropping up everywhere at the moment, it sounds like something I’d enjoy. Love the photo of your dog, that is the best pet halloween costume I’ve ever seen! I hope your essential oils do the job and you start to feel a little better and you look fab in that lovely knitted hat, what a brilliant birthday present. The colour really suits you! xx
I think you’d like the book Hayley, it’s a nice one. And thankyou about Brody’s costume, he wears it every year because we’ve never found another one we like more! Yes, I’m hoping the oils, along with all the other things I’m doing will help a bit 🙂 Oh and I love my hat – the colour is so nice at this time of year xx
I love the colour of that hat on you and yes, so lovely to receive such a thoughtful gift. I too get quite excited when my husband goes out (don’t tell him that lol) but he so rarely does! Love having the remote to myself – my ‘go to’ is usually Gilmore Girls. Sounds like a lovely week. x
My hat is getting lots of feedback Suzanne – I’ll have to tell my sister, she will be pleased 🙂 It’s funny, my husband doesn’t go out much either but he does go away with work quite often. It’s usually the only chance I get to catch up on the programmes he doesn’t want to watch! 😉 xx
The Keeper of Lost Things is such a sweet book isn’t it?
Looks like you had a good birthday haul there. The hat your sister knitted you is gorgeous on you loving the colour especially.
Hope you’ve had a good week this week and sorry I’m so late in popping by and commenting xx
No problem Morgana, you’ve been busy! Yes, the book is lovely and I do really like my hat xx
