Now that we’re at the stage of high winds and snow drifts, it seems as good a time as any to reflect on this rather nice scene from earlier in the week. 💙❄️
My favourite books are probably those rooted in a sense of place, whether that be through memoir, or in fiction where the setting is almost a separate character in the novel (Peter May does this very well if you’ve ever read any of his fiction.) When it comes to places, you’ve probably guessed by now that Caithness, where I’m from, is my very favourite place. I loved this book, set in Caithness, by George Gunn (who happens to be the leader of the writing group I attend - I would have loved it anyway!) It’s a sweeping tale of discovery and mythology spanning archaeology, science, Christianity, Nordic myth and Celtic civilisation - all blended with the people and culture of Caithness.
